Minority & Women-Owned Business Registry (PeAp)

In August 2022, Peoria launched the Peoria Equity Accountability Program (PeAp) to create the city’s first certification and directory for Minority-Owned (MBE) and Women-Owned (WBE) businesses.

Licenses & Permits

Peoria doesn’t require a general business license. However, some businesses need specific business or occupational licenses.
 Depending on what your business does, you may also need permits for certain activities.

Municipal Taxes

  • Restaurant/Tavern Tax
    • 2% tax on food, non-alcoholic drinks, and alcoholic beverages sold by restaurants, bars, and mobile food vendors.
    • Exemptions: Pre-packaged sealed items, “Take and Bake” items, hermetically sealed containers.
  • Hotel/Room Rental Tax
    • 8% tax on hotel, motel, and short-term rentals (stays of 29 days or less).
    • Exemptions: Stays of 30 days or longer.
  • Amusement Tax
    • 3% tax on admission fees for entertainment like concerts, sporting events, shows, axe-throwing, trampoline parks, and other activities.
    • Exemptions: Schools, local cultural nonprofits, religious, educational, or charitable institutions.
