(PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) observed a group of males gathered in the 800 block of W. McBean.
As officers approached the group they observed one male walk away. Police followed the subject identified as a 14-year-old male and took him into custody without incident at MLK Park.
While conducting a search of the juvenile’s flight path police located a discarded handgun with an extended magazine on the ground. The handgun was reported stolen.
The juvenile was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, Possession of a Stolen Handgun, and Possession of a Handgun Under 21.
The juvenile 14-year-old was transported to the JDC.
