A winter storm is expected to impact the City beginning tomorrow morning, Sunday, Jan. 5, and lasting throughout the day and into the morning of Monday, Jan. 6. Forecasted snow accumulations between 2-5 inches are anticipated during this timeframe.
In preparation for this storm, the Department of Public Works applied liquid pretreatments to overpasses, bridges, and hills on Friday, Jan. 3. The Public Works Snowfighters will begin 12-hour, around-the-clock operations at 7 am tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 5. Continuous street treatment operations will continue through the duration of the storm.
When the storm begins, crews will focus on treating the City’s primary streets and emergency snow routes. Crews will continue to focus on these streets while the snow falls.
Residential street treatment occurs once 2 inches of snow has fallen in the City and the snow has stopped. No parking on snow routes is automatically enforced when 2 inches or more of snow is forecasted. No parking on these routes will remain in effect for 48 hours.
Due to the forecasted conditions of this storm – periods of heavy snow and wind gusts up to 30 mph – travel may become hazardous at times and roads may freeze or refreeze quickly. Throughout the day Sunday and Monday morning, residents are reminded to:
• Stay home, if possible.
• Slow down, accelerate and brake gradually, and use extreme caution.
• Give yourself extra distance between your vehicle and snowplows.
• Carry an emergency kit in your vehicle.
