The City of Peoria Department of Public Works crews started 12-hour, around-the-clock operations this morning in preparation for this afternoon’s freezing rain.
Freezing rain is expected to impact the City around 3 pm and last through the evening hours. Ice accumulations are expected to be low, ranging from a light glaze to up to a tenth of an inch.
In preparation for this precipitation and ice, crews are applying liquid and salt pretreatments to overpasses, bridges, hills, and main arterial roads today, Wednesday, Feb. 5. Crews will treat the City’s roads throughout the afternoon and evening.
Ice-covered roadways can present a unique set of challenges to drivers compared to snow. Extreme caution should be used when traveling on ice-covered roads. Remember to travel slower than normal, give yourself extra distance and time, and to stay alert for changing road conditions.
