The City of Peoria Department of Public Works Snowfighters returned to 12-hour, around-the-clock operations in preparation for this evening’s forecasted snowfall and overnight freezing rain chances.
While the City expects to see less than an inch of snow this evening, overnight freezing rain is forecasted to linger into Saturday morning which could result in a glaze of ice on the City’s roadways.
Hills and overpasses were pretreated with salt and crews will focus on treating the City’s primary roads and emergency snow routes as the precipitation falls. Around-the-clock operations will continue until further notice.
Due to the timing and the forecasted wintry mix for the area, Public Works reminds residents that road conditions may change rapidly this evening and overnight. Slick spots may develop as the snow that does fall looks to be wet and slushy.
Extra caution should be exercised, especially when traveling on ice-covered roads. Remember to travel slower than normal, give yourself extra distance and time, and stay alert for changing road conditions.
