Previously Reported:
(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at approximately 3:39 a.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Garden regarding two separate Shot Spotter alerts indicating 10 rounds fired back-to-back, totaling 20 rounds fired.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male (31 years old) lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers immediately performed life-saving measures, but the victim died from his injuries.
The identity of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
There is currently no suspect information. This incident is under investigation.
Update: 7/30/2024
During the course of this investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 35-year-old Bryan D. Vann. Officers have been unsuccessful in their efforts to locate and arrest Vann. The Peoria Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in locating Vann.
Vann is described as a black male, approximately 5’10”, 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Vann is wanted for First Degree Murder. If Vann is seen, please notify the police immediately. Vann is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
This incident remains under investigation.

UPDATE 6/17/25
During the course of this investigation, Peoria Detectives, with assistance from members of the U.S. Marshals Service, learned that Vann was residing in a residence in Chicago.
On June 17, 2025, Officers with the U.S. Marshals Service located Vann at that residence and took him into custody without incident.
This case remains ongoing.
