(PEORIA, IL) Thursday, July 3, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) observed a male subject armed with a handgun in the 600 block of S. Western. Officers approached the subject, identified as 31-year-old Shamir J. Lindsay, and located a handgun on his person. Lindsay was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes. Lindsay was subsequently arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, No FOID, and an Active Warrant. PPD Incident #25-12605
Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 3:01 p.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 2800 block of N. Rockwood Drive on a report of a male shooting a gun into the ground. When officers arrived, they located the male, identified as 39-year-old Jose Antonio Barajas Uribe, inside the above residence with a handgun. A short time later, Uribe exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. The handgun was recovered by officers. Uribe was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Aggravated Assault. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail. PPD Incident #25-12663
Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 11:38 a.m., Peoria Police responded to the 600 block of W. Hillyer on a report of a male juvenile (14 years old) with a gun. When officers arrived, they made contact with the juvenile’s mother, who told police she located the firearm inside the juvenile’s backpack. The juvenile was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, No FOID, and Possession of a Firearm Under 21. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. PPD Incident #25-12683
Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 6:11 p.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 700 block of W. Hurlburt on a report of trouble with a female. When officers arrived, they observed the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Talija M. Washington, driving away. The vehicle was stopped and searched by police. Officers located two firearms inside the vehicle. Washington was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Aggravated Assault. She was transported to the Peoria County Jail. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 600 block of S. Western Avenue on a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was firing a weapon in the 1800 block of Howett Street. The male, identified as 32-year-old Kevin L. Boyce, was taken into custody without incident. The firearm was recovered by police. Boyce was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Firearm Without a Valid FOID, and Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition. Saturday, July 5, 2025, at approximately 3:39 a.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Spalding Avenue on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived, they located an adult male (38 years old) with a stab wound to his left shoulder. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim told police he was approached by an unknown male who asked him for money. When the victim said no, the suspect stabbed him and fled the scene. This incident is under investigation. Sunday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 8:57 p.m., Peoria Police were dispatched to the 300 block of S. Kersee on a report of a male shot. When officers arrived, they located a male juvenile (17 years old) in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
While on scene, officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of W. Phoenix on a report of a second male shot. When officers arrived at the second location, they observed a male (19 years old) with a gunshot wound to the right leg and foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Currently, there is no suspect information. Both incidents are under investigation. PPD Incident #25-12886
