(PEORIA, IL) On Sunday, August 24, 2025, at approximately 12:29 a.m., Peoria Police were patrolling the 200 block of SW Water Street when they made contact with a vehicle occupied by two individuals who were smoking cannabis.
During the contact, the driver, 34-year-old Kali L. Freeman, drove away in an attempt to avoid identification, nearly striking an officer. Officers pursued the vehicle, which came to a stop a short distance from its original location.
A male occupant, later identified as 27-year-old Jamari T. Belin, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, officers apprehended Belin without further incident. While searching the area, a K9 officer found a discarded firearm that had been reported stolen.
Arrests and Charges:
• Jamari T. Belin was arrested for:
o Possession of a Stolen Firearm
o Possession of a Weapon by a Felon
o Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
o Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition with a FOID Card
o Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card
o Obstructing an Officer
o Resisting Police
• Kali L. Freeman was arrested for:
o Aggravated Assault to a Police Officer
o Fleeing/Eluding Police
o In addition, she was cited for multiple traffic violations
Both individuals were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
