(PEORIA, IL) On Thursday, October 2, 2025, at approximately 12:52 p.m., Peoria Police officers were dispatched to a business in the 2600 block of N. University Street regarding reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old male inside the business with a graze wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded and initiated an investigation. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified 20-year-old Rico Jackson Jr. as the suspect.
At approximately 2:43 p.m., Jackson Jr. was located in the 1200 block of W. Margaret Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes. Following the interview, Jackson Jr. was arrested for:
• Aggravated Battery with a Firearm
• Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
• Possession of a Handgun Under 21
• No FOID
Jackson Jr. was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
