The City of Peoria Department of Public Works is returning to around-the-clock operations this morning as crews prepare for today’s winter weather system. Forecasts indicate snow will begin between 1-4 p.m. and continue through 2-5 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, with 2-4 inches of accumulation expected.
Crews will be pretreating hills and overpasses with brine today ahead of the snowfall to help reduce slick conditions once the snow begins.
Due to the timing of this system, significant travel impacts are likely during the evening commute. Heavy snowfall rates may lead to rapidly changing road conditions, including slick and snow-covered streets throughout the evening and overnight hours.
Public Works encourages motorists to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and allow for extra travel time. Drivers should remain alert as conditions may deteriorate quickly once the snow begins.
Crews will continue working in 12-hour shifts until further notice to treat and clear the City’s streets. Road condition updates will be shared as needed.
Public Works urges residents to use caution, stay informed, and drive safely during this next round of winter weather.
