Dec. 12, 2025 (Peoria, IL) As Public Works crews complete the remaining residential routes today, preparations will begin tonight for the next round of winter weather, which is expected to arrive Saturday morning. Current forecasts indicate snowfall will start between 6-9 a.m. and will continue through 6-9 p.m., bringing 3-6 inches of new accumulation to Peoria.
The City of Peoria Snowfighters will remain on 12-hour, around-the-clock operations until further notice. After A-Shift crews finish residential routes today, B-Shift crews will inspect and prepare equipment overnight for tomorrow’s storm. Crews will also respond to any problem areas that develop during the night.
Snowfall is expected to be the heaviest between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. During this time, road conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Public Works strongly encourages residents to avoid travel during the afternoon and evening hours. Those who must be on the road should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and use caution around plow trucks as crews work to maintain mobility and restore safe driving conditions.
Residential road treatment will resume once 2 inches of snow have accumulated, arterial routes have been cleared, and the snowfall has ended.
As a reminder, no parking on emergency snow routes is automatically enforced when 2 inches or more of snow is forecasted. Parking restrictions will remain in place for 48 hours. Residents are also urged to be good neighbors by keeping sidewalks around their homes clear of snow.
Snowstorm updates will be issued throughout the weekend. The City urges residents to stay informed, stay prepared, and use extreme caution during this next significant winter weather event.
