(PEORIA, IL) On Sunday, December 28, 2025, at approximately 12:16 a.m., Peoria Police responded to the 2300 block of N. University Street in reference to a ShotSpotter alert indicating seven rounds fired, followed shortly by an additional four rounds fired in the same area.
Upon arrival, officers conducted an area check but did not locate any victims or suspects.
During the course of the investigation, officers identified a male who fled the scene following the gunfire. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jamari D. Ramsey, was later located at a residence in the 1100 block of W. MacQueen Street and taken into custody without incident.
A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of a firearm.
Ramsey was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Identification, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Aggravated Assault/Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun by a person under 21 years of age.
Ramsey was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
