(PEORIA, IL) On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at approximately 12:18 a.m., Peoria Police Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Fremont Street and Griswold Street for vehicle violations.

As officers attempted to initiate the stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A short time later, officers located the abandoned vehicle parked in the 2300 block of W. Marquette Street. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a 9mm handgun, three magazines, and two micro conversion kits.

During the course of the investigation, officers identified and located one of the suspects, 21-year-old Amarion Johnson, inside a residence in the 2400 block of W. Antoinette Street. A search of the residence resulted in the recovery of a handgun with an extended magazine. The firearm was determined to be stolen.

Johnson was arrested for Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, Possession of Ammunition without a Valid FOID Card, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Traffic Violations, and an Active Warrant. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

This investigation remains ongoing.
