(PEORIA, IL) Sunday, November 5, 2023, at approximately 9:43 a.m. Peoria Police conducted a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation.
During the stop, the driver identified as 25-year-old Courtland Shields exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot. Shields was eventually apprehended and placed into custody.
During a search of the suspect’s flight path officers located a discarded handgun.
Shields was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Obstructing Police, and several traffic violations.
Shields was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
