(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, October 28, 2023, at approximately 12:41 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 200 block of E. Thrush on a Shot Spotter alert of 9 rounds fired.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male down in the roadway with major trauma to his body.
The
victim was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The manner and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

UPDATE 12/29/23
During the course of this investigation, 35-year-old Demetrius D. Drummond was identified as the suspect who discharged his firearm, causing the victim to be inadvertently run over.
On Thursday, December 28, 2023, at approximately 7:50 p.m. Detectives observed Drummond pull into a business at Knoxville and Detweiller.
Officers immediately approached the vehicle and placed Drummond into custody without incident.
During a search of Drummond’s vehicle officers located and seized illegal controlled substances.
Drummond was transported to the Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (23-24851) Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by
a Felon (23-20810), Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Aggravated Domestic Battery (23-18773).
Drummond was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
