(PEORIA, IL) On Thursday, February 1, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) were informed by Vermillion County Deputies about a possible school shooting threat.
Their investigation consisted of two males and a female from Vermillion County and a 16-year-old male from Peoria. The Peoria juvenile was known to CID Detectives from a school shooting threat that
occurred last year. That incident was cleared with no
charges brought against the teen.
The information received by police on February 1, 2024, connected the juvenile to the group from Vermillion County.
During the course of this investigation, CID Detectives made contact with the 16-year-old male at his residence in Peoria and placed him under arrest.
The juvenile was subsequently arrested for Felony Disorderly Conduct.
The teen was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
During the investigation, Administrators with District 150 were contacted and immediately made aware of this information.
Peoria Detectives have also remained in contact with Vermillion County Deputies regarding the status of their investigation.
On Monday, February 5, 2024, the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office filed three charges against the 16-year-old: Making a Terrorist Threat, a Class X Felony, Disorderly Conduct, a Class 4 Felony, and Conspiracy, a Class 1 Felony.
Because of the serious nature of the threats, the State’s Attorney’s Office also filed a petition to transfer the matter to adult court requesting the teen be tried as an adult.
This incident remains under investigation.
