(PEORIA, IL) Friday, January 26, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Peoria Police were on the scene of a traffic accident on the Gale Street overpass of I-74 when officers heard 12 to 15 shots fired nearby. One of the shots struck a police vehicle. No one was injured.
During the course of the investigation, police with the assistance of a License Plate Reader (LPR) identified the vehicle where the shots were fired
from. The vehicle was located a short time later abandoned in the 2600 block of N. Lavalle.
Officers conducted a search of the area for suspects with negative results.
This incident is under investigation.

UPDATE 1/7/24
On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at approximately 12:37 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) located 25-year-old Donte A. Wright, a suspect in this case while conducting a traffic stop in the 3600 block of N. University Street.
During a search of the vehicle officers located and seized a handgun.
Wright was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Wright was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
