(PEORIA, IL) Monday, March 11, 2024, at approximately 4:51 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the 2200 block of NE Perry on a Shot Spotter alert of one round fired.
When officers arrived, they observed four males walking from the area where the shot was fired.
When
officers attempted to make contact with the males, they all fled on foot.
During the chase, officers observed one of the subjects identified as 18-year-old Demetrius A. Jones discard a handgun as he fled. Jones was apprehended a short time later.
Officers also apprehended a 14-year-old male who also fled on foot. The juvenile was found to be in possession of ammunition. The other two males were not located.
During a search of the suspect’s flight path officers located a loaded handgun. Police later learned the handgun was reported stolen. (#23-24101)
Officers also located and seized a loaded rifle along the suspect’s flight path.
Jones was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, Possession of a Stolen Handgun, and Possession of a Firearm Under 21.
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
The juvenile was subsequently arrested for Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
