(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at approximately 10:12 a.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) conducted an investigative stop on a male juvenile matching the description of a person with a gun at the intersection of Starr and Westmoreland.
When officers approached the 17-year-old male he immediately fled on foot.
During the chase officers observed an extended magazine protruding from the juveniles’ jacket pocket. Officers then observed the juvenile run into a residence in the 2100 block of W. Starr. Police entered the residence and apprehended the juvenile.
During a search of the residence officers located a handgun with an extended magazine. The handgun had a switch making it a full-auto machine gun.
The juvenile was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Possession of a Machine Gun, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, and Resisting Police.
He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
