(PEORIA, IL) Monday, May 6, 2024, at approximately 4:53 a.m. Peoria Police responded to the 1100 block of W. Millman on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of a private residence.
When officers arrived, they approached the vehicle and observed two adult males carrying firearms passed out inside the vehicle. While the subjects were asleep police opened the doors of the vehicle and retrieved an AR-15 rifle lying near the
passenger,
and a handgun that was between the legs of the driver.
Both subjects were identified as 30-year-old Orlando L. Mathews, and 33-year-old Tristan L. Shelton were then awakened by police. As police were attempting to place Mathews under arrest, he resisted but was eventually taken into custody. Shelton was arrested without incident.
During a search of the males, officers located a handgun on Shelton’s person.
Orlando Mathews was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Trespass, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting Police, and Possession of a Firearm without a valid FOID Card and an Active Warrant.
Tristan Shelton was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Trespass, and Possession of a Firearm without a valid FOID Card.
Both subjects were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
