[ARCHIVED] 6/7/24 Chief Eric Echevarria Provides Update to Community Regarding Anti-Violence Initiative 2024

(Peoria, IL) – On Thursday, June 6, 2024, local law enforcement officers conducted another Directed Patrol Detail. This detail included members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID), Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Neighborhood Services Unit (NSU), Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police (Troop 4), Illinois State Police Air Operations, and Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations (Zone 4). There was a total of 40 plus law enforcement officers participating in this detail.
In keeping with departmental transparency, the following summarizes the results of yesterday’s efforts:
Approximately 51 vehicle stops were conducted, resulting in several citations and numerous warnings. 11 arrests were made, 1 weapon was seized, and illegal drugs were seized. 25 tickets were issued, 2 vehicles were impounded, and one vehicle was towed. Below is a brief synopsis of major incidents during the detail.
• Grinnell/Livingston: At approximately 6:27 p.m. Peoria Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an electric scooter for a traffic violation at the intersection of Grinnell and Livingston. The driver of the scooter identified as 40-year-old Brandon A. Jackson ignored officers’ commands to stop and continued to drive away. While fleeing, officers observed Jackson reach into his pocket and discard an object in the 1700 block of Lydia. A short time later officers apprehended Jackson without further incident. Officers located and seized a handgun Jackson threw away while fleeing. During a search of Jackson, police located illegal drugs, drug equipment, and drug packaging inside a bag on Jackson’s person. He was then transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Armed Violence, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jackson was also cited for traffic violations. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

• Additional Information: There were no Shot Spotter alerts during the detail. (SID) In addition to this detail, SID officers conducted covert operations associated with ongoing investigations involving known violent offenders.
(CID) - Detectives conducted follow-ups involving active violent cases.

“Since January 14, 2022, Peoria Police have been conducting these Directed Patrols across the city. Each one of those patrols has led to the arrest of numerous individuals who chose to break the law. Our patrols have also led to the seizure of countless weapons, and drugs. As I have stated before, these Directed Patrols are working, and our officers will continue to conduct them in order to make our wonderful city a place where everyone feels safe."
