Previously Reported:
(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at approximately 7:21 p.m. a Peoria police officer patrolling the 100 block of E. Forrest Hill heard shots being fired. Seconds later a Shot Spotter alert of three rounds fired was activated.
When
officers arrived, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The identity of the victim and cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Special Investigations Division (SID) Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

During the course of this investigation members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) arrested 20-year-old Messiah Z. Carpenter for First Degree Murder.
UPDATE: 7/25/24
On Thursday, July 25, 2024, members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the Peoria County Jail and arrested 18-year-old Korion B. Hopkins for First Degree Murder in connection with this incident. Hopkins was already in custody for a separate incident.
This investigation remains ongoing.
