Beginning the week of March 3, weather-dependent, construction will begin again on the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.
Drivers should be aware that work zones, traffic control, traffic pattern shifts, and parking restrictions will be established on both Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue in the coming weeks.
Parking and lane restrictions will be marked. Parking meters will be bagged with “No Parking” signs. Parking and lane restrictions will change as the project progresses.
Last year, the project focused on upgrading the intersection corners along Adams Street to enhance pedestrian safety.
This year, the project’s primary focus will be upgrading the intersection corners along Jefferson Avenue. Intersection work will occur at Adams Street and William Kumpf Boulevard this year as well.
About the Project
The OWTW Project is a two-and-a-half-year, $18.9 million project that will convert Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue from one-way to two-way traffic.
The project will include new corner bump-outs to shorten pedestrian crossings, added bike lanes, upgraded traffic signals, and mill and overlays of the existing pavement. The final roadway will have one lane in each direction and a bidirectional turn lane.
Once completed, two-way traffic on Adams Street will run from Pecan Street to Hamilton Boulevard and on Jefferson Avenue from Persimmon Street to Fayette Street. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.
