Beginning at 9 am on Monday, March 3, weather permitting, prescribed prairie burns will occur near the Orange Prairie Detention Basins.
The prescribed burns on Monday will occur near Basins 1 and 3 and should conclude by 3 pm. If weather conditions hold steady, a prescribed burn near Basin 2 will occur from 9 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, March 4.
This work is part of the Orange Prairie Detention Basins Restoration Project. The benefits of controlled burns include:
• Promoting new growth for wildflowers and other plants.
• Recycling nutrients back into the soil.
• Improving the overall ecosystem health for plants and animals.
• Minimizing insects and the spread of plant diseases.
