The City of Peoria’s annual summer-enrichment initiative for Peoria Public Schools students, the Mayor’s Youth Program, kicks off at 9 am on Monday, June 2, at Twin Towers Plaza Conference Room 420, 456 Fulton St.
The Mayor’s Youth Program is dedicated to strengthening the community through civic leadership, working together to broaden impact, continuous learning, valuing youth-led public service, and creating safe work environments that celebrate diversity and inclusion.
In coordination with the Department of Public Works, the program is a paid summer internship for Peoria Public Schools students ages 16-18. The eight-week program focuses on beautification projects such as planting, mulching, and removing litter throughout various parts of the City.
On Fridays, students participate in education and career exploration activities, including visits to area colleges and trade schools, tours of healthcare and manufacturing facilities, and learning from various guest speakers.
