(PEORIA, IL) On Friday, June 20, 2025, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Peoria Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating 16 rounds fired in the 1200 block of W. Butler.
Upon arrival, officers observed three males in the vicinity and attempted to make contact. All three individuals fled on foot. One subject, identified as 30-year-old Dawaun J. Smith, ran toward a nearby residence in the 300 block of S. Webster and attempted to enter a vehicle parked in the front yard. Officers were able to apprehend Smith at that location. A firearm was later located inside the vehicle where Smith attempted to gain entry.
The remaining two subjects fled in different directions. One male identified as 30-year-old Jarvis D. Logan was apprehended and taken into custody by responding officers a short time later. A second firearm was recovered along the flight path of the third fleeing subject, who was not located.
Smith was subsequently arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition without a FOID Card, Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, and Active warrants for Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault (2 counts).
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
Logan was arrested for Obstructing an Officer.
He was also transported to the Peoria County Jail.
