An honorary street naming ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the corner of W. Columbia Terrace and N. North Street to honor the late Dr. W. Roscoe McCall.
Dr. McCall was one of the first African American dentists in Peoria, having operated his dental office from 1977 until 2007, near the intersection of North Street and Columbia Terrace. He was a lifelong member of the NAACP, an active participant with the Tri-County Urban League, and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi in Peoria.
Along with Dr. McCall’s humanitarian efforts, he served as a mentor for countless children throughout the community by teaching them about dentistry. He supported and coached baseball at the Proctor Center for several years.
The location of the street naming was chosen due to its proximity to Dr. McCall’s former dental office. The family business was first located at 1215 N. North Street until a new building was built at 1225 N. North Street. The building is now owned and operated by his youngest son, Christopher McCall, of McCall Law Offices, P.C.
