(PEORIA, IL) Monday, March 6, 2023, at approximately 1:35 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the 2700 block of W. Wiswall on a Shot Spotter alert where a total of 71 rounds were fired. (Full auto gunfire) When officers arrived, they were informed that a male exited his vehicle at the above location and began shooting at another male who was firing back. The suspect then fled the area on Lincoln. No one was injured. During the course of the investigation, officers located an adult male identified as 19-year-old Dennis Bailey III matching the description of one of the shooters at Antoinette and Griswold. During a search of Bailey, officers located a high-power rifle on his person. As officers attempted to place Bailey under arrest, he attacked a police officer. The officer wasn’t injured. Bailey was transported to the Peoria Police station for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card. Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), Neighborhood Services Unit (NSU) and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
