Dec. 6, 2025 (Peoria, IL) The Department of Public Works will begin 12-hour shifts starting at 7 p.m. tonight as crews prepare for a winter weather system expected to impact the City overnight. Forecasts project 1-2 inches of snow, with the potential for a wintry mix across the region.

Freezing rain is anticipated to begin around 9 p.m., transitioning to snow as temperatures continue to fall. The system is expected to exit the area by approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Staff will actively monitor conditions throughout the event and adjust their response as needed. Crews will remain on 12-hour shifts until further notice to ensure roadways are treated and cleared as efficiently as possible.

Drivers should expect slick roads overnight and during the morning hours on Sunday. Public Works encourages residents to exercise caution, reduce their speed, and allow for extra travel time.

Road condition updates will be provided as needed. Public Works urges residents to remain alert to changing road conditions and to drive safely during this winter storm.
