(PEORIA, IL) On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at approximately 7:25 p.m., Peoria Police Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Arago Street and Hayes Avenue.
Officers made contact with five occupants inside the vehicle. During the course of the stop, officers established probable cause to search the vehicle and subsequently located a loaded handgun.
As a result of the investigation, 19-year-old Karon H. Hopkins was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Obstructing Justice, Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition without a FOID Card, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device.
Additionally, 24-year-old DeAngelo D. McCoy was arrested on active warrants.
Both subjects were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
