Overnight snowfall across the City has resulted in snow-covered roads and slippery driving conditions. While streets remain generally manageable, drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution while traveling this morning.
Public Works crews began around-the-clock operations at 7 p.m. last night and will continue working 12-hour shifts until further notice. The City of Peoria Snowfighters are focusing on treating and clearing arterial streets as snowfall continues today. Snow is expected to taper off around noon.
Once the snowfall has ended and arterial routes have been cleared, treatment of residential streets will begin late afternoon\tonight. When crews enter neighborhood streets, residents should utilize off-street parking options, if possible. Residential streets that are free and clear of parked vehicles are cleared more efficiently and effectively.
Residents are also reminded that on-street parking is prohibited on designated emergency snow routes. This restriction will remain in effect for 48 hours. Residents are also encouraged to be good neighbors by clearing sidewalks adjacent to their homes, which helps ensure safe passage for pedestrians.
Drivers should remain alert and use caution throughout the day as road conditions may change. For more information about the City’s winter operations, call 309-494-8850.
Please stay aware of changing conditions, travel safely, and have a good morning.
