(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 1:33 a.m. Peoria Police responded to the 300 block of S. Western on a Shot Spotter alert of 2 rounds fired.
When officers arrived at the above location, they observed a vehicle driving away at a high rate of speed. As officers followed, they observed the vehicle crashing into a fence at Western and Washington. The vehicle continued and eventually came to a stop
on Greenlawn.
One of three subjects inside the vehicle fled on foot. Officers with the assistance of a K9 conducted a search of the area for the suspect with negative results.
While conducting a search of the vehicle officers located a loaded handgun and spent casings inside.
The two remaining occupants inside the vehicle identified as 18-year-old Ethan D. Haynes and 18-year-old Blayden H. Shutt were detained and subsequently arrested.
Haynes was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm Under 21, Reckless Driving and Hit and Run.
Shutt was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm Under 21.
Both men were transported to the Peoria County Jail.
This incident remains under investigation.
