(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at approximately 9:35 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Main and Ellis.
When officers approached the vehicle, they observed three subjects inside. Officers removed the subjects and searched the vehicle based on probable cause.
One
of the subjects, identified as 19-year-old Dyrell A. Smith, refused to exit the vehicle and was eventually removed by officers. Smith was sitting on a handgun when officers removed him from the vehicle.
Smith was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, and Resisting/Obstructing Police.
Smith was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
