(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, October 21, 2023, at approximately 12:21 a.m. Peoria Police utilized a License Plate Reader (LPR) to locate a stolen vehicle.
As officers began to follow the stolen vehicle it fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers observed the fleeing vehicle turn onto Sam J. Stone which came to a dead end. The vehicle then intentionally crashed into a police squad car and continued to flee. The officer was not injured.
The vehicle continued for a short distance when officers observed the driver, a 16-year-old male, jump out of the vehicle while it was still moving.
After a brief foot chase the juvenile suspect was apprehended and placed into custody.
The juvenile was arrested for Aggravated Battery to Police, Aggravated Assault on Police, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Reckless Conduct, Criminal Damage to State Supported Property, Obstructing Police, Resisting Arrest, Leaving the Scene of
an Accident, Reckless Driving, Failure to Render Aid, Improper Lane Usage, No Driver’s License, No Insurance, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
The 16-year-old was transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
