(PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at approximately 2:15 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) observed two juveniles in the area of Sheridan and McClure. One of the juveniles had an active warrant.
When
officers approached the two juveniles at North and McClure, one of the subjects, a 17-year-old male fled the area on foot. Officers observed a handgun on the fleeing suspect.
During the chase, the 17-year-old discharged the firearm. He was apprehended a short time later. No one was injured.
While conducting a search of the juvenile’s flight path officers located the firearm.
The 17-year-old was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, and Obstructing Police.
The second juvenile, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody for the active warrant without incident.
Both juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
