(PEORIA, IL) Sunday, December 10, 2023, at approximately 5:21 a.m. Peoria Police responded to the 1600 block of S. Griswold in reference to trouble with a male refusing to leave.
Upon arrival, officers met with the adult female complainant outside the residence.
While speaking with the female, officers encountered an aggressive dog that charged at the officers. Two officers discharged their firearms to stop the dog from attacking them. The dog died on the scene from the injuries sustained in the shooting. The female
complainant sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for examination. One of the officers also sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to the hospital for examination.
Due to a civilian sustaining injury in an incident where officers discharged their firearms, Illinois State Police (ISP) were contacted to conduct this investigation.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
