(PEORIA, IL) On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 4:03 p.m. Peoria Police took a report involving possible fraud committed by 37-year-old Nicholas J. Hamby, the owner of NJH Hardscapes.
During the course of the investigation, seven other victims came forward with similar complaints of fraud against Hamby and his business. The victims stated that Hamby took a large amount of cash for home projects but did not complete the work.
On Thursday, February 8, 2024, Peoria Detectives gathered enough evidence and placed Hamby under arrest without incident.
The total loss for all victims is approximately $30,396.50.
Hamby was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Home Repair Fraud, Home Repair Fraud (6 counts), Deceptive Practices, and Theft (8 counts).
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
