(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at approximately 9:55 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Virginia Avenue regarding a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside a residence with an apparent stab wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The
victim’s identity as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
During the course of the investigation officers located the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jeremy Barnett, in the 1000 block of W. MacQueen.
Barnett was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for First Degree Murder.
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
