(PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at approximately 10:24 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of W. Gift on a call of a person shot.
When officers arrived, they observed a male running on foot from a vehicle in the area. Officers began to pursue the male, later identified as 32-year-old Geno Carter.
Carter attempted to hide in the backyard of a residence in the 1200 block of W. Virginia but was located by officers. Carter then threatened to shoot officers.
A perimeter was then established and negotiations with Carter were started.
After approximately 25 minutes Carter surrendered to police and was taken into custody without further incident. No firearm was located. It was later learned the call of a person shot was fictitious and was called in by Carter.
Carter was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct (False Police Report), and Resisting Police. Carter was also arrested for Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and several other traffic violations in reference to a separate incident.
Carter was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
