(PEORIA, IL) Sunday, April 14, 2024, at approximately 2:32 a.m. Peoria Police observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed at Hamilton and NE Perry. Because of the extreme rate of speed police did not pursue the vehicle.
Minutes later, police were dispatched to the 100 block of SW Monroe on a report of a hit and run involving the speeding vehicle.
When
officers arrived, they located an adult male down in the roadway. The victim was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.
During the course of this investigation, officers with the assistance of a License Plate Reader (LPR) located the vehicle involved in the Hit and Run incident in the 3100 block of W. Manchester.
The driver identified as 36-year-old Derek M. Dawson was immediately apprehended and transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes.
Dawson was arrested for Failure to Report an Accident, DUI, Failure to Render Aid, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, driving on a Suspended License, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
Dawson was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
