(PEORIA, IL) Friday, June 7, 2024, at approximately 1:01 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of S. Blaine Street on a report of trouble with a male.
When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with an adult male identified as 52-year-old Matthew J. Burnside Jr. who barricaded himself inside the residence and refused officers’ commands to come out. Police were also informed that Burnside was
armed with a rifle.
SWAT and Police Negotiators responded to the scene and attempted to convince Burnside to surrender and exit the residence. Burnside refused to comply.
SWAT then deployed chemical munitions inside multiple areas of the residence.
Burnside eventually exited the front door and was placed into custody without further incident.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) then executed a Search Warrant on the residence and located a .22 Rifle inside.
Burnside was arrested for an IDOC Warrant-Parole Violation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting/Obstructing Police, and for an Active Warrant for Domestic Battery/Criminal Damage to Property (23-23435).
Burnside was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
