(PEORIA, IL) Sunday, June 9, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 2600 block of W. Huntington Drive on a report of a juvenile male shot.
When officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old male inside a residence with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper chest. The juvenile told police he and another male juvenile (16 years old) were handling a firearm when it discharged accidentally.
The
juvenile was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
During the course of this investigation, police learned the juvenile who fired the weapon was in possession of the handgun prior to the shooting.
The 16-year-old was subsequently arrested for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Handgun Under 21.
He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
