August 29, 2024 (PEORIA, IL) The city of Peoria and Big Picture Peoria will unveil a new mural on the Niagara Parking Deck on Tuesday, September 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Great Harvest Bread Company, inside OSF HealthCare System, 124 SW Adams Street, in downtown Peoria.
The mural will be installed on the city-owned Niagara Parking Deck, 111 SW Adams Street. The project received final approval for a special use permit by the Peoria City Council on August 27 after a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission and a review from the Public Arts Advisory Commission.
The mural was created by nationally recognized artist Alex Carmona, who moved to Peoria with his family from Colorado five years ago. Carmona is a master relief printmaker who specializes in woodcuts, reduction woodcuts, and wood carvings/engravings. His work has been displayed all over the world.
Speakers at the unveiling will include Peoria Mayor Rita Ali, Mark Misselhorn of the Big Picture Peoria board, Community Foundation of Central Illinois CEO Mark Roberts, and Gilmore Foundation President Laura Cullinan.
