Community Relations Manager
City of Bloomington
Occupation: As Bloomington’s community relations manager, Gregory Wilson conducts interviews and investigates allegations of discrimination in employment, housing, finance and public accommodations. He monitors city contractors and vendors for compliance with Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity guidelines. He also ensures Bloomington is in compliance with federal privacy, disability and family medical leave laws. Additionally, Mr. Wilson operates consulting and commercial cleaning businesses.
Community Involvement: A founder of YANI Collective, a cultural organization that promotes innovative arts, education and community events. The group has conducted college fairs, toy drives, art/fashion shows, book drives for Peoria’s juvenile detention center and Peoria’s annual Juneteenth Festival. His other activities range from coaching JFL football to organizing an annual end-of-the-school-year bash to celebrate student achievement.
Education: Bachelor of science, psychology, and master of business administration, University of Phoenix; doctorate, business administration and leadership, Walden University (by March 2024)
Elected Office: Mr. Wilson was elected to represent District 2 of Peoria Public Schools Board of Education in 2017 at the age of 26, making him the youngest African-American elected to the school board. He was re-elected in 2022 and as served as board president.
