South Side Resident Officer
Occupation: Marques Smith, a Peoria Police Officer, is resident officer for Peoria’s south side. Resident officers live in the neighborhoods they patrol, which is designed to strengthen trust and relationships between officers and residents of under-served neighborhoods. Besides patrol duties, Officer Smith works with residents and other city departments, such as code enforcement, to address quality-of-live issues and reduce crime.
Community Involvement: As a resident officer, Smith is involved in the community he serves. He works with families, neighborhood associations and other organizations and helps organize and promote community events.
Education: Certification and licensing, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), Illinois Central College; licensing, Peoria Barber College; law enforcement certification, Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center
