Occupation: Melodi Green is a licensed attorney. As Peoria’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, she is responsible for leading the city’s efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in hiring, procuring contracts with minority-owned businesses, and the overall workplace culture. Additionally, she helps ensure city government provides an environment free of discrimination in any capacity and offers equitable opportunities for all.
Community Involvement: Ms. Green is chairperson of the Peoria County Bar Association’s Diversity Committee. She has volunteered for other programs, including Peoria Law Day Program, Street Law Program and Align Peoria. She has also served as guest speaker for a variety of community events.
Education: Bachelor of Arts, Kentucky State University; Juris Doctor, Southern Illinois University School of Law; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certification, Cornell University
Three things she’s passionate about: Raising her daughters to become good people; matters concerning the advancement of the Black community; and learning about different cultures, beliefs and practices
Three favorite hobbies: Travel and learning new things; art, from painting to DIY projects, and cooking new recipes
