Occupation: Eliza Brooks is executive director of middle schools for Peoria Public Schools. Her duties include collaborating with each middle school principal to develop overall school plans to enhance students’ learning and improve academic outcomes.
Community Involvement: A former principal in Danville, Ms. Brooks served on the board of the Laura Lee Fellowship House and worked closely with the NAACP to found Kings of Peace, a violence-prevention initiative.
Education: Bachelor of science, education, master of science, administrative leadership, Eastern Illinois University
Three things she’s passionate about: “Students finding their gifts and helping them to be great.”
Three favorite hobbies: Pool, watching sports and board games
Career influence or inspiration: Her seventh grade teacher, Lavada Thornton, was one of the kindest people she’s ever known. Ms. Thornton was also her first African-American teacher. “She showed me it was okay to be smart, she had a strong belief in my gifts.”
