Road Closures or Lane Closures Due to Special Events
The city of Peoria is committed to communicating with community members regarding upcoming events that may impact their lives. Please be advised that there may be road closures or lane restrictions in our community due to special events throughout the year. These closures are essential to ensure the safety of participants and spectators and facilitate smooth event operations.
Detailed information about specific roads affected, dates, and times of closures will be posted on this page, the calendar on the home page, and our social media channels.
We encourage you to plan your routes accordingly, allow for extra time, and use alternative routes when possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
The events listed may impact daily travel due to detours and road closures in the areas surrounding the events.
1/20/2025 - Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom March Parade - Rolling Lane Restrictions
Beginning at 2 p.m. and lasting until 3 p.m. on Monday, January 20, rolling lane restrictions will go into effect on several City streets for the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom March Parade sponsored by the King Holiday Committee of Peoria, Bradley University, and Illinois Central College.Drivers should exercise caution along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Parade Route
- The FreedomMarchParade will begin on the Bradley University Campus at the Garrett Cultural Center, 824 N. Duryea Place.
- The parade will travel south on N. Duryea Place before traveling west on W. Moss Avenue. From W. Moss Avenue, the parade will travel south on N. Western Avenue, then west on W. Martin Street before ending at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 305 S. Madison Park Terrace.

3/1/2025 -- Bradley University Kappa Delta Shamrock -- Roads Around Bradley Campus
Beginning at 7 a.m. and lasting until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, numerous roads around the Bradley University Campus will be closed due to the Kappa Delta Shamrock Run, sponsored by the Kappa Delta Sorority.
Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the race route. The use of alternative routes is advised.

- Bradley Avenue will be closed to through traffic between N. Cooper Street and N. Elmwood Avenue.
- Cooper Street will be closed to through traffic between W. Bradley Avenue and W. Ayers Avenue.

3/17/2025 -- St. Patrick's Day Parade -- Downtown Road Closures
Beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m. on Monday, March 17, numerous roads throughout Downtown will be closed due to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by the St. Patrick Society of Peoria. The parade begins at 11 a.m.
Parking restrictions will be in effect along the parade route and staging area. Drivers should exercise caution and patience. The use of alternative routes and marked detours is advised.
Parade Route
• The St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. at Hancock Street and N.E. Monroe Street. The parade will travel southwest down N.E. Monroe Street to Main Street. The parade will travel southeast on Main Street to N.E. Adams Street. The parade will travel northeast on N.E. Adams Street before ending at Hamilton Boulevard.
Road Closures – 8 a.m.
• Hancock Street will be closed from N.E. Jefferson Avenue to N.E. Perry Avenue.
• N.E. Madison Avenue will be closed from Bryan Street to Wayne Street.
• N.E. Monroe Street will be closed from Bryan Street to Wayne Street.

• N.E. Monroe Street will be closed from Wayne Street to Fulton Street.
• Spalding Avenue will have limited intermittent access at N.E. Monroe Street.
• Fayette Street will be closed at N.E. Perry Avenue.
• Hamilton Boulevard will be closed from N.E. Perry Avenue to N.E. Washington Street.
• Main Street will be closed from N.E. Perry Avenue to N.E. Washington Street.

• Through traffic on S.W. Adams Street will travel northeast on S.W. Adams Street to Liberty Street, southeast on Liberty Street to S.W. Washington Street, northeast on S.W. Washington Street, and north on Eaton Street.
• Through traffic on N.E. Jefferson Avenue will travel southwest on N.E. Jefferson Avenue to Bryan Street, southeast on Bryan Street, south on Eaton Street, southwest on N.E. Washington Street to Liberty Street, and northwest on Liberty Street to S.W. Jefferson Avenue.

3/13/2025-3/18/2025 -- St. Patrick's Day Events -- Water Street Closure
Beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, and lasting until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, S.W. Water Street will be closed to all traffic between State Street and Walnut Street due to Kelleher’s Irish Pub & Eatery St. Patrick’s Day events.
Drivers should be mindful of the closure and utilize S.W. Washington Street as a detour.

3/17/2025 -- Manual High School Boys Basketball IHSA State Finals Parade -- Rolling Lane Restrictions
Beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, rolling lane restrictions will go into effect on several City streets for the Manual High School Boys Basketball IHSA State Finals Tournament Parade.
The parade will be escorted by the Peoria Fire Department. Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Parade Route
· The parade will begin at Manual High School, 811 S. Griswold Street, before traveling east on W. Lincoln Avenue and then northeast on S.W. Adams Street.
· From S.W. Adams Street, the parade will travel northwest on S. MacArthur Highway and then west on W. Howett Street.
· Traveling west on W. Howett Street, the parade will head south on S. Griswold Street and end back at Manual High School.
4/18/2025 -- Outdoor Stations of the Cross Walk -- Rolling Lane Restrictions
Beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 18, rolling lane restrictions will go into effect on several City streets for the Outdoor Stations of the Cross Walk, sponsored by St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the walk route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Walk Route
The walk will begin at the intersection of N.E. Madison Avenue and Hancock Street. Walkers will head north on Hancock Street before traveling east on N.E. Perry Avenue.
From N.E. Perry Avenue, walkers will head north on Morton Street. From Morton Street, participants will walk west on N.E. Glendale Avenue.
From N.E. Glendale Avenue, walkers will travel south on Green Street before ending at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 607 N.E. Madison Avenue.

4/24/2025 -- Skills Fest -- Madison Avenue and Fulton Street Closures
Downtown road closures and parking restrictions will go into effect at noon and last until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, for Skills Fest, sponsored by Skills USA Illinois.
Drivers should be mindful of these road closures and use caution in the area. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Road Closures
- W. Madison Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Fulton Street and Main Street.
- Fulton Street will be closed to through traffic between S.W. Monroe Street and S.W. Jefferson Avenue.
Parking Restrictions
On-street parking restrictions on Madison Avenue between Fulton Street and Main Street, and on Fulton Street between S.W. Monroe Street and S.W. Jefferson Avenue will be in effect during this time.

April 26 – Run to Remember 5K – Road Closures Near Junction City
Road closures will go into effect near the Junction City Shopping Center at 7 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, for the Run to Remember 5K Run, sponsored by the Illinois Chapter Concerns of Police Survivors.
Drivers should be mindful of these road closures and use caution in the area. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Road Closures
- Humboldt Avenue will be closed to through traffic at N. Prospect Road.
- Woodlawn Place will be closed to through traffic at N. Humboldt Avenue.

April 26 – Autism Acceptance and Appreciation Day Event – Flora Avenue Road Closure
N. Flora Avenue will be closed to all traffic from W. Main Street to the north parking lot entrance of the Peoria Township Relief Office, 427 W. Main Street, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. The closure is necessary for the Peoria Autism Acceptance and Appreciation Day event, sponsored by the Peoria Police Department.
Drivers should be mindful of this closure and use caution in the area.

April 27 - BUILT-Cruise In – Water Street Road Closure
S.W. Water Street will be closed to through traffic from Liberty Street to Main Street from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, for the BUILT Cruise-In, sponsored by the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
Access to the Peoria Riverfront Museum Parking Deck will be maintained. Drivers should be mindful of this closure and use caution in the area.
Detour Route
S.W. Water Street through traffic should utilize S.W. Washington Street as the detour route.
5/3/2025 -- OSF Nun Run for Cancer -- Water Street Closures and Parking Restrictions
Closures and parking restrictions along S.W. Water Street from Harrison Street to Main Street will go into effect at 6:30 a.m. and last until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, for the OSF Nun Run for Cancer, sponsored by OSF Foundations.
Drivers should be mindful of these closures and restrictions. The use of caution and alternative routes is advised.
Road Closures & Parking Restrictions
• When the run begins, S.W. Water Street will be closed from Harrison Street to Main Street. This closure will last until the last participant passes through the Main Street Intersection and crosses onto the RiverFront Trail.
o During this time, no on-street parking will be allowed on S.W. Water Street from Harrison Street to Main Street.
• Once all participants have crossed onto the trail, S.W. Water Street will reopen to traffic from Main Street to Liberty Street.
o At this time, on-street parking will be allowed on S.W. Water Street from Main Street to Liberty Street.
• S.W. Water Street will then be closed from Liberty Street to Harrison Street until 10:30 a.m.
• Liberty Street will be closed at S.W. Water Street for the duration of the run.
• Harrison Street will be closed at S.W. Water Street for the duration of the run.
Detour Route
• S.W. Water Street through traffic should utilize S.W. Washington Street as a detour route.

5/10/2025 -- Susan G. Komen Peoria More Than Pink -- Street Closures and Parking Restrictions near Metro Centre
Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect near the Metro Centre, 4700 N. University Street, from 7:40 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, for the Susan G. Komen Peoria More Than Pink Walk, sponsored by Susan G. Komen.
Drivers should be mindful of these closures and restrictions. The use of caution and alternative routes is advised.
Road Closures
- Glen Avenue will be closed from N. University Street to N. Sheridan Road.
- Isabell Avenue will be closed from W. Glen Avenue to W. Shenandoah Drive.
- Shenandoah Drive will be closed from N. University Street to N. Sheridan Road.
- Sherwood Avenue will be closed from W. Shenandoah Drive to W. Glen Avenue.
Parking Restrictions
- No on-street parking will be allowed on N. Isabell Avenue, W. Shenandoah Drive, and N. Sherwood Avenue during the event.
Walk Route
- The walk will begin at the Metro Centre, 4700 N. University Street. Walkers will cross W. Glen Avenue and head north on N. Isabell Avenue. From N. Isabell Avenue, walkers will travel west on W. Shenandoah Drive before heading south on N. Sherwood Avenue. From N. Sherwood Avenue, walkers will head east on W. Glen Avenue before ending back at the Metro Centre.
Detour Route
- Through traffic on W. Glen Avenue should utilize W. Northmoor Road from N. University Street or N. Sheridan Road as the detour route.
5/20/2025 -- Eucharistic Procession -- Rolling Lane Restrictions
Rolling lane restrictions on several downtown streets will go into effect from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, for the Eucharistic Procession, sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.
Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Walk Route
The walk will begin at the Sacred Heart Church, 504 Fulton Street. Walkers will travel northeast along N.E. Madison Avenue before ending at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 607 N.E. Madison Avenue.

5/21/2025 -- Ride of Silence -- Rolling Lane Restrictions
Rolling lane restrictions will go into effect on several City streets beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, for the 2025 Ride of Silence, sponsored by Bike Peoria.
Drivers should be mindful of these lane restrictions and exercise caution along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Bike Route
- Riders will begin at Tower Park, 1222 E. Kingman Avenue, Peoria Heights, and will travel south on N. Prospect Road before heading east on E. Hines Avenue. Traveling east on E. Hines Avenue, participants will head south on N. Grand Boulevard.
- From N. Grand Boulevard, riders will ride west on E. War Memorial Drive until they reach N. New York Avenue. On N. New York Avenue, riders will head north to E. Lake Avenue.
- Heading east on E. Lake Avenue, participants will travel back to N. Prospect Road. Riders will head north on N. Prospect Road before returning to Tower Park.
6/9/2025-6/10/2025 -- Fire Station 16 Construction -- Traffic Delays Expected
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 9, contractors will be onsite at 2105 W. Northmoor Road to support steel deliveries for the Fire Station 16 project. Semi-trucks will be delivering structural materials throughout the day and into Tuesday, June 10, including the arrival of a crane.
Drivers should expect brief, intermittent traffic delays during this time. Normal traffic patterns are expected to resume by Wednesday, June 11, weather permitting.

6/13/2025-6/14/2025 -- Steamboat Classic -- Downtown and North Valley
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and lasting through approximately noon on Saturday, June 14, numerous intersections and roads throughout downtown and the North Valley will be restricted due to the Steamboat Classic 15K, sponsored by Break The Tape, LLC.
Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the race route. The use of alternative routes is advised, and delays should be expected.

• Steamboat Classic participants will start on S.W. Washington Street at Hamilton Boulevard. Participants will race north on Eaton Street, west on Bryan Street, north on N.E. Madison Avenue, west on Abington Street, enter into Glen Oak Park, exit onto E Gift Avenue, south on N. Prospect Road, re-enter into Glen Oak Park, exit east on Abington Street, south on N.E. Monroe Street, east on Main Street, and finish at Water Street.

• Main Street from S.W. Washington Street to S.W. Water Street will close to all traffic starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and will last until approximately noon on Saturday, June 14.

• The intersection of Bryan Street and N.E. Adams Street will be temporarily restricted during the race. Approaching the intersection, traffic will be reduced to one lane.

6/14/2025 -- Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade -- Numerous Roads and Intersections Along MacArthur Highway Corridor
Beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, numerous roads and intersections along the MacArthur Highway corridor will be restricted due to the Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade, sponsored by the NAACP Peoria Branch.
Drivers should exercise caution along the parade route and follow all marked detours. The use of alternative routes is advised.

• The parade will begin on S. MacArthur Highway, just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park. The parade will travel north on S. MacArthur Highway, east on W. John Gwynn Jr. Avenue, south on S. 6/14/2025 -- Juneteenth Fest -- N. Richard Pryor Place
N. Richard Pryor Place will be closed from W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue to W. Fourth Street, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. The closure is necessary for the Juneteenth Festival, sponsored by the YANI Collective.

Due to a water main break that occurred on Sunday, June 29, at the intersection of Main Street and S.W. Adams Street, a change to the road closure schedule in downtown Peoria for the Red, White, & BOOM! fireworks display, sponsored by Choose Greater Peoria and i3 Broadband, will occur.
Road Closure Change
- Main Street from S.W. Adams Street to S.W. Washington Street is currently closed and will remain closed through the Fourth of July. Originally, Main Street was set to close at 8 p.m.
Drivers should exercise caution and patience throughout the day and evening. The use of alternative routes is advised, and travel delays can be expected following the conclusion of the fireworks display.
The following closures and restrictions remain unchanged and will occur as follows:
Parking Lot Closures – 9 a.m.
The Liberty Street Riverfront parking lot and the parking lot adjacent to Martini’s on Water.
- The Caterpillar parking lot, located at S.W. Washington Street and Hamilton Boulevard, will be available only to VIP event permit holders and persons with disabilities.

The following roads will be closed, and parking restrictions will go into effect.

Detour Route
• Adams Street through traffic should utilize southbound Main Street to northeast-bound Washington Street.
• Main Street through traffic should utilize Hamilton Boulevard from either N.E. Washington Street or N.E. Perry Avenue.

10/1/2025-10/2/2025 -- Manual High School Homecoming Parade -- Rolling Lane Restrictions

On Saturday, October 4, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., rolling lane restrictions will go into effect on several city streets for the Peoria Manual High School Homecoming Parade.
The Peoria Police Department and Peoria Fire Department will escort the parade. Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
Parade Route
• The parade will begin at Manual High School, 811 S. Griswold Street, before traveling east on W. Lincoln Avenue and then north on S. Western Avenue.
• From S. Western Avenue, the parade will travel east on W. Main Street and then north on N. University Street.
• Traveling north on N. University Street, the parade will head east on E. War Memorial Drive until reaching Peoria Stadium, 315 E. War Memorial Drive.
10/1/2025-10/2/2025 -- Career Spark -- S.W. Monroe Street Closure

On Wednesday, October 1 and Thursday, October 2, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., S.W. Monroe Street will be closed from Fulton Street to N. William Kumpf Boulevard. The closure is for Career Spark, sponsored by the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council and Junior Achievement of Central Illinois.
Drivers should follow all posted detour routes and use caution in the area.

From 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26 until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 27, road closures will be in effect along S.W. Washington Street and S.W. Water Street for the Chocolate Turkey 5K Run/1-Mile Walk, sponsored by ShaZam Racing.
Parking restrictions will be in effect along the route. Drivers should exercise caution along the route. The use of alternative routes is advised.
5K Route
• Runners will start midblock on S.W. Water Street between Liberty Street and Main Street. Runners will race northeast along Water Street before traveling north on Eaton Street and then southwest on N.E. Washington Street. Runners will turn around midblock on S.W. Washington Street between Pecan Street and S. MacArthur Highway and run northeast back down S.W. Washington Street. Runners will head south on Hamilton Boulevard before running southwest on S.W. Water Street and ending at the starting line.

On Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., lane restrictions will go into effect on several city streets due to the St. Jude Catholic School 5K,sponsored by St. Jude Catholic School.

Race Route
• The race will start at St. Jude Catholic School, 10911 Knoxville Ave. From the parking lot, runners will travel west on N. Dana Court to W. Wilhelm Road. Traveling northwest, runners will head to N. Northtrail Drive and travel north. Then, from N. Northtrail Drive, runners will head east on W. Meadowview Drive and enter Timothy J. Cassidy Park.
• Runners will circle the path at Timothy J. Cassidy Park, exit, and head west on W. Meadowview Drive. Runners will then travel south on N. Northtrail Drive, southeast on W. Wilhelm Road, and northeast on N. Dana Court before returning to St. Jude Catholic School.
11/11/2025 -- Veterans Day Parade -- Roads Throughout Downtown

On Tuesday, November 11, from 9 a.m. until noon, numerous roads throughout downtown will be closed due to the Veterans Day Parade, sponsored by the American Legion Post 2. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
Parking restrictions will be in effect along the parade route. Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the parade route. The use of alternative routes and marked detours is advised.
Parade Route
• The Veterans Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the intersection of W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue and N. William Kumpf Boulevard. The parade will cross N. William Kumpf Boulevard and travel northeast on S.W. Monroe Street. The parade will head southeast on Main Street, then northeast on N.E. Adams, and conclude at Hamilton Boulevard. Following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Peoria County Government Courthouse.
Road Closures – 9 a.m.
• Romeo B. Garrett Avenue will be closed between N. Hightower Street and N. William Kumpf Boulevard.
Road Closures – 9:45 a.m.
• William Kumpf Boulevard will have intermittent traffic flow directed by the police department at the intersection of W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue and S.W. Monroe Street.
• Monroe Street will be closed between N. William Kumpf Boulevard and Hamilton Boulevard.
• Jefferson Avenue will be closed between Fulton Street and Hamilton Boulevard.

12/2/2025 -- Christmas in the Village Community Tree Lighting -- S.W. Water Street Closure and Parking Restrictions
On Tuesday, December 2, from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., S.W. Water Street will be closed from Liberty Street to the entrance of the Peoria Riverfront Museum Parking Deck. The closure is necessary for the Christmas in the Village Community Tree Lighting, sponsored by Choose Greater Peoria.
Drivers will still be able to access the Peoria Riverfront Museum Parking Deck and the MEL lot, located at the foot of Liberty Street.
S.W. Water Street through traffic should utilize S.W. Washington Street. Extra caution should be used in the 100-200 blocks of S.W. Water Street.
Parking Restrictions
• Parking restrictions will be in effect in the 200 block of S.W. Water Street from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2.
