Artist Statement
Sometimes the world around us is bright and cheerful, but we don’t feel that way, and we get stuck. But it’s gonna be okay. This is a mixed media painting --- it’s one of my earlier paintings from my house series. My houses are crooked because…life is crooked. I also don’t like drawing straight lines…I’d rather live in a crooked house.
Biography
Jessica Peterson is a multifaceted artist living in Peoria, Illinois. While her drawings and photos express her darker feelings, her colorful paintings reflect the carefree childhood just beyond her reach. Jessica was a two-time winner of the Sky Art Peoria billboard contest, in 2017 and in 2022. Whether she has a camera in her hand, charcoal, clay, or a paintbrush, her goal is the same: to give people the chance to escape into a world of her own making.
